It’s been two months since I left Melbourne. It feels both long and short at the same time. And even though this city has grown on me, I miss Melbourne and all the friends that I left behind. But, as I am blessed with the most amazing friends, I had a couple of visiters who flew to Shanghai to shop, drop and hang out with me.
We spent the weekend eating way too much food, enjoying the most delicious cocktails and living it up in a five star hotel. Coming back to reality was not the easiest transition, however, my wallet will surely thank me. After seeing all of what Shanghai has to offer, both the good, bad, cheap and not too expensive (considering how great the exchange rate is) we headed out to Hangzhou to catch our breath.
Hangzhou is a beautiful city, with a wonderful lake and tea fields that go for miles. In true tourist style, we hired a three person tandem bike and quite successfully (although not initially) rode around the Xi Ha (Great Lake) and took in the sights, barely avoiding pedestrians and causing a few traffic issues. It was a near perfect day, with sunshine (finally!), a tasty cheap Chinese meal, the fastest train ride, quiet streets and mountains, mountains, mountains, all around.
I needed a little bit of Melbourne and it came in the form of two of the best people I know. Shanghai, you aint too bad but I’ll miss my mates!
