After almost five weeks here in Shanghai I had my very first design class today. I’ve become so used to not having school that my brain has completely zonked out. I have a feeling that the next three weeks is going to be absolutely ridiculously intensive. Lucky for me, fried rice and dumplings are on every corner because I’m gonna need sustenance.
Our project is a collaboration between Tongji University Sino-Finnish Design Center and St Martins College of Art and Design in London. It is actually a Masters workshop, and the under grads have just been thrown in to the mix by accident. I imagine that I’ll be doing a lot of swimming, let’s just hope that I don’t sink or worse, drown.
We’ve been split into three groups and my project involves working on a rooftop space to create something that is interactive, user-oriented and functional. Tomorrow we start on site research and by the beginning of April we have to implement our designs. The task seems out of reach and as always slightly disorganised but the possibilities are endless and I’m excited to finally create!
It’s gonna get spatial.
